'Sabson Unchi Prem Sagaai'- Song from B R Chopra's Mahabharat

This is one of my most favourite song from B R Chopra's Mahabharat . It is written by the great poet Surdas where he tells about the greatness of the Lord.  You can find the song by searching with the name of the song on YouTube. Here is the lyrics and English Translation:- Sabson (Sabse) unchi prem sagaai, Sabson (Sabse) unchi prem sagaai; Of all forms of worship of the Lord, love is the highest. (1) Duryodhan ke meva tyaage, Duryodhan ke meva tyaage; Saag Vidur ghar khaai, Lord Krishna renounced the delicacies that Duryodhana offered, and ate vegetables at Vidura’s house. Sabson unchi prem sagaai.... (2) Jhoothe phal Sabri ke khaaye, Jhoothe phal Sabri ke khaaye; Bahu vidhi swaad bataai, As Lord Ramchandra, He ate fruits which were already filled with love from Sabari.   Sabson unchi prem sagaai.... (3) Prem ke bas ripu seva kinhi, Prem ke bas ripu seva kinhi; Aap bane Hari naai (??), Love is indeed the best way to serve and pl...

'Bole Radha Shyam Diwaani'- A Devotional Song from the Hindi Film 'Tumhare Liye'

This is a very sweet song in which Radha tells about her feelings for Krishna. I listened to the song two years back I think. And liked it instantly because of the spontaneous expressions narrated in the song.  The films is- 'Tumhare Liye' (1978), singer Lata Mangeshkar, the lyricist is Naqsh Lyallpuri  and the music director is- Jaidev. I have not watched the film, so do not know the situation of the song.  The way 'Govindam'- word is repeated many times, it creates a soothing effect on the listener :) Thought to share the song with all of you :) Here is the lyrics- Bole Radhe Shyam Deewani Ho Bole Radha Shyam Deewani Pee Ka Mukhda Bhor Suhaani Preet Bina Hai Jeevan Aise - 2 Jaise Nadiya Ho Bin Pani Govindam Govindam - 4 Mere Maana Mere Maana Mere Maana - 2 Mann Ka Naata Mann Ka Bandhan Itna Pyara Kitna Pawan Mann Ka Naata Mann Ka Naata Mann Ka Bandhan Kitna Pyara Kitya Pawan Kayi Yogo Se Janam Janam Se Main Mohan Ki Mera Mohan Govindam Govindam -...

Shuk Shaari Dwando

This is an old composition in Bengali literature I think. I heard this song for the first time in a Bengali play ' Dampati' by Manoj Mitra and Gita Dey. Back then I could not understand the meaning of the song, now I realise how the song is composed. Soul and body, Purush and Prakriti are the two elements which make the creation. This theme is presented in this song through the metaphor of Radha and Krishna . Here we can see how Radha and Krishna are inseparable. In any aspect of creation if we take out one from it, the creation does not exist. The song is very sweet. The structure is like a competition or a question answer session between the devotees of Radha and  Krishna  regarding who is more important. They take many aspects of life, ask questions, answer them and gradually realise that they both are equally important. Two birds Shuk- Shaari (male- female) are used here as a spokesperson for the team of  Krishna  and Radha respectively. The mus...

Janmashtami 2016

Like every year, this year also we celebrated the Janmashtami festival at home with puja, prasaad and devotional songs. Star Gold as well as Discovery Kids was airing ‘Little Krishna’ Series throughout the whole day.  Though I have watched it a few times, still yesterday also we watched many episodes of it to enjoy again and again :) While watching these stories, I remember the first part of K M Munshi's ‘Krishnavatara’ novel so much! Those events of Vrindavan had left a permanent mark on my mind! Also the wishes by all the relatives and friends made the day great and blissful. May Krishna shower us with blessings in every moment. Jai Shri Krishna . ( Here I have Uploaded the cover page of the 2009 edition of book by Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan. used for the purpose of appreciation only.)

Today we will read a story about How Krishna purifies His devotees thr' tests and trials :- Watch it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SITIlAC55w8&feature=related As mentioned in my previous post - NARAD met Bhakti mata and came to know about her problem , HE wanted to help her by asking KRISHNA about it . Bhakti wanted to know – how NARAD will be able to find the LORD ? As HE can be in any place of the whole creation doing miracles ! But NARAD was confident and said that it is very easy for HIM to find the LORD , because HIS real self always remains in HIS abode – GOLOKA . In fact, it is not difficult for NARAD to visit any place at will. But when he started his journey, he became confused – he crossed all the universe, still could not find out the way to GOLOKA. Witnessing all this, KRISHNA explained to RADHA that NARAD started his journey with pride , so he must get rid of it as soon as possible . HE also said that NARAD is very dear...

Dear Friends, we all know how Rukmini, the Princess of Vidarbha, sent her message to Shri Krishna expressing her wish to marry him and to save her from getting married to Shishupal (acc to the wish of her brother Rukmi). The Lord accepted her wish, came and married her. Such a beautiful incident!! 'Shri Krishna Stuti': 2 Songs from Ramanand Saagar's 'Shri Krishna'

Dear Friends, today I am posting two of my most favourite songs from the TV Serial 'Shri Krishna'. Both the songs have these words- 'Shri Krishna Govinda Hare Muraare' ... and the Music is also the same.... The first one is from the scene when Shri Krishna comes to the womb of Devaki, all the god along with Brahmaji and Naaradji come to sing the glory of the Lord! That moment conveys the joy of the coming of the Lord on this earth! I always feel the happiness inside while listening to it. This is the video of the sequence (Uploaded by Dear Sister Lola) : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=83UELX4Fnn4 The lyrics along with its English Translation was originally posted by Lola in 'India Forums': Narayanaya Namo Namah, Parmeshwaraya Namo Namah - we bow to you, God Y'asmin Sthitah Jagat Sarvam, Sa Janani Garbhe Sthitah- you, within whom the whole universe resides, now reside in this mother's womb Nirakaarah Ajanmayo, So Vayi Sa Karmagatah - formless, unborn, s...
