After narrating about Narsimha avtaar, Shukdevji tells King Parikshit about the story how 'Shrimad Bhagwat Mahapuraan' was composed.
Now we are shown a dramatization of the following event-
After composing Mahabharat, his father sage Veda Vyas was still feeling incomplete inside. As the epic ended in a devastating war, (the emotions which evoked in the mind of Veda Vyas, during the process of composing Mahabharat), made him sad.
One day Narad muni came to him and asked the reason of his sadness. Veda Vyas replied that in Mahabaharat he has tried to incorporate all the knowledge of the vedas, so that the persons who are unable to read the pious texts can still have access to that knowledge. He has tried to tell about dharma, about right action and their significance in our life. Thus he has tried to help humankind to let a rich and meaningful life. But even after such a composition, he is still feeling something lacking in his endeavor.
Now Naraadji explains that no doubt his aim has been a novel one, but since human beings have some limitation in their understanding, so there is a chance that they may misinterpret the epic (Mahabharat) and start focusing more in the outward activities/ worldly matters. (Whereas the ideal focus should always be on the 'inner journey'/ 'journey of the Soul').
Any text which does not focus on the glory of the Lord, seems incomplete.... So now Veda Vyas should start writing a composition where he will sing the about the glory of the Lord, the divine Love, the pure emotions, which will immerse all the three worlds in pious flow of the nectar of Devotion. Reading that text will be the sure way to Salvation for all the souls in Kaliyuga.
Now Veda Vyasa asks from where will he get the story of Shri Krishna leela? Then Naaradji tells him that once he had listened to the sacred saga of Shri Krishna from his elder brothers, i.e.- the four Santkumars, which he will now narrate to Veda Vyas, so that he can write about it in his composition.
Now Shukdevji tells King Parikshit that as the tradition goes, In the beginning, Muni Naarad starts with the avataars of the Lord, who came for their Leela before Shri Krishna. And then he came to he tales of Shri Krishna. Veda Vyas listened to all the tales and thus the great sage Veda Vyas started to write 'Shrimad Bhagwaat Mahapuraan'.
